Connor McDavid Reaches 400 Goals: The Humble Confession of a Goalscorer

Salt Lake City – Connor McDavid, the star of the Edmonton Oilers, surprised everyone with a curious revelation after surpassing 400 goals in his career.

Scoring goals hasn’t been easy for me. It’s something I work on, something I focus on. I set a goal at the beginning of the year: to try to shoot more pucks.

McDavid, after scoring two goals in the 5-2 victory against Utah, reaching 401 goals, shared that, despite his impressive performance, scoring goals is not something that has come naturally to him. Jack Roslovic, who also scored two goals in the game, reacted with disbelief to McDavid’s statements. “No comment,” Roslovic replied when asked if he agreed with his teammate’s statement.

“Anotar goles no ha sido algo fácil para mí,” dijo Connor McDavid después de superar los 400 goles. “Es algo en lo que trabajo, en lo que me concentro. Me fijé una meta al principio del año: tratar de tirar más discos.”
McDavid became the fifth player in Oilers history to reach 400 goals. The goal that gave his team the lead was number 39 of the season, putting Edmonton ahead 3-2. His 401st goal and the 40th of the season came in an empty net with 7.5 seconds remaining on the clock. The Oilers coach, Kris Knobaluch, highlighted McDavid’s danger. “Of course, there’s his speed, but I don’t think enough credit is given to his shot. He’s dangerous when he comes out of the circles, he has a great release and is very difficult to mark. He’s very determined to get to the net.” McDavid, a three-time winner of the Hart Memorial Trophy as league MVP, known for his extraordinary speed, considers himself more of a playmaker. He now has 1,200 career points, the third-fastest player to reach this mark, behind Gretzky and Mario Lemieux, and needs only one assist to reach 800. “It’s a big number, obviously, and I feel like I still have a lot of great years ahead of me, which is exciting,” McDavid, the first draft pick in 2015, said. “These milestones are a good time to reflect and I’m very grateful to have played with so many great players.” Roslovic added: “It’s incredible. It’s great for him, obviously, to do that, and then for us to be able to be a part of that and to be able to see it is special.”
