COD Celebrates Olympic Day in La Romana
The Dominican Olympic Committee (COD) will kick off the celebration of Olympic Day in La Romana, on the occasion of the 131st anniversary of the founding of the International Olympic Committee (IOC). The day will begin with the traditional planting of trees at the Pedro Julio Nolasco Sports Complex. This event is scheduled for 8:30 in the morning and will be attended by authorities from the COD, the Ministry of Sports, the Provincial Commission for the Environment of La Romana, and other invited organizations. Subsequently, at 10:00 a.m., the “Olympic Walk” will take place. This walk will start from the Rotunda and will go along Santa Rosa de Lima street, ending at the Virgilio Castillo (Chola) Sports and Cultural Club. There, the protocol act will be held, which will include speeches by the authorities and recognitions. Olympic Day, supported by the Olympic Solidarity program and coordinated by the Olympic Academy, will also offer a panel led by the Women and Sport Commission. In addition, an exhibition of various sports and artistic-cultural activities will be presented starting at 11:30 in the morning.Various entities have joined forces to make this event in La Romana possible, including the La Romana Sports Union (UDERO), the Virgilio Castillo Club (CHOLA), the Ministry of Sports, the Municipal Council of La Romana, the Governorate, the Economic Dining Halls, the Provincial Directorate of Environment, the Municipal Fire Department, Civil Defense, the Fernando Ureña Rib Educational Center, the Universidad Central del Este, the Directorate of Education Modality in Arts (DEMA), and the Ministry of Education.The celebration of Olympic Day seeks to renew the joy generated by sport, its connection with the environment, education and youth.
