MIAMI – The Venezuelan Baseball Team began its participation in the 2026 World Baseball Classic with a solid victory, defeating the Netherlands Team with a score of 6-2 in the first match of Group D, held at loanDepot park. The Venezuelan team cemented their triumph thanks to a four-run rally in the fifth inning, a crucial moment that defined the course of the game.

Outstanding Vinotinto Offensive

The Venezuelan offense shone, driven by the performances of Luis Arráez and Willson Contreras, who each contributed two runs. Javier Sanoja also had an outstanding performance, hitting a solo home run that ignited the attack. Venezuela took the lead from the start, when Ronald Acuña Jr. hit a double in the first inning and later scored thanks to a single by Arráez against the starting pitcher of the Netherlands, Antwone Kelly. Netherlands responded in the second episode, tying the game with a run driven in by Druw Jones, allowing Hendrik Clementina to score. However, Venezuela quickly regained control of the game, extending their lead in the fifth inning.

Ranger Suárez Leads the Pitching

In the mound, the left-handed Ranger Suárez led the Venezuelan pitching work. The bullpen maintained control of the game, securing the victory for the team led by Omar López in the tournament. With this victory, Venezuela starts off on the right foot in a competitive group that also includes the Dominican Republic, Israel, and Nicaragua. The next challenge for Venezuela will be against Israel, while the Netherlands will seek its first victory facing Nicaragua.
