In a remarkable performance at the Queen’s Club tournament, British tennis player Dan Evans, who received a special invitation, achieved a surprising victory over the world number 13, Frances Tiafoe, with a score of 7-5, 6-2. This victory marks Evans’ first triumph in this prestigious tournament since 2021, demonstrating his ability to compete at the highest level. Evans’ court prowess, including his precise sliced backhands and quick reflexes at the net, were key to securing his second victory against a top 20 player on grass. The first was at Wimbledon in 2019.Other players who advanced in the first round include Holger Rune, seeded number four, and Jakub Mensik, seeded number eight, who made his debut at Queen’s. Mensik, 19, impressed with 20 aces, defeating Cameron Norrie, a former finalist, with a score of 7-6 (6), 1-6, 6-1. In the next round, Mensik will face Roberto Bautista Agut of Spain, who achieved a comeback in three sets against Nuno Borges of Portugal. Meanwhile, Rune will play against Mackenzie McDonald of the United States, who eliminated Gael Monfils of France with a score of 6-4, 6-4. The top two seeds in the tournament are Carlos Alcaraz, Wimbledon and Roland Garros champion, and Taylor Fritz, who won the Stuttgart tournament on Sunday, earning his fourth grass-court title.“I still believe I have that tennis in me and I still think I can do good things inside the top 100. But believing it and having it happen is very different. You know, there are days when you think, ‘Are you delusional, are you crazy, you still have it, you still have it in your legs?’ Today proved that I still have a little bit left.”
