Brandon Figueroa Recaptures Featherweight World Title with Stunning KO
A year after losing his featherweight world title, Brandon Figueroa, known as “The Heartbreaker”, achieved a dramatic technical knockout victory in the twelfth round over Nick Ball. The match took place at the Echo Arena in Liverpool, England, where Figueroa silenced the local fans by stopping Ball in the final round, thus securing the WBA featherweight world title. The fight, which kept the spectators on the edge of their seats, culminated in an electrifying outcome. Figueroa (27-2-1, 20 KOs) sent Ball (23-1-1, 13 KOs) to the canvas with a powerful left hook, and then continued the offensive to secure the victory by TKO at 32 seconds of the twelfth round. Ball, visibly affected, ended up hanging from the ropes after a series of blows.Figueroa, who was leading on the scorecards of two of the judges at the time of the stoppage, expressed his satisfaction after the fight. “I have been away from my family for three months. I came here 10 days before the fight, and our game plan worked, a shout out to my coach Manny Robles. I want to fight in front of my own fans, and I want to unify.”I felt like I was dominating. Despite the difference in height, Ball managed to connect effective punches from the start. In the first round, Ball connected a right uppercut, and continued with combinations in the second. Figueroa had more success in the third, especially to the body, and surpassed Ball in power punches in the fourth.
Ball, for his part, had good moments in the fifth, including a right hook, and was more active in the sixth. Figueroa increased the volume of his punches in the ninth, but was counter-punched several times in the tenth. In the last round, Ball came out aggressively, but was surprised by Figueroa’s left hook, which defined the fight.
