Tigers send Beau Brieske to Triple-A after poor performance

The Detroit Tigers have sent reliever Beau Brieske to Triple-A Toledo this Thursday, a day after his difficult performance against the Baltimore Orioles. Brieske allowed five runs, three hits and two walks in just one-third of an inning on Wednesday night. This performance, which raised his ERA to 6.55, led to his demotion to the minor leagues.

“We need to get him to execute better. He needs a reset to get back in the strike zone. Utilizing all his pitches will lead to better results,” commented Tigers manager AJ Hinch.

So far this season, Brieske has given up 16 earned runs, 24 hits, and 12 walks in just 22 innings. The Tigers were hoping he would overcome this slump, but his performance against the Orioles was revealing.

“Last night was the end of the conversation, and now it’s time to do it. This has been building up over several outings, where the execution wasn’t good for him,” added Hinch.

To fill the bullpen spot, the Tigers called up left-handed pitcher Matt Gage from Toledo.

“It’s been really good. He’s really earned his spot here. It’s a reward for him for dominating in Triple-A,” Hinch explained.

Gage was 1-1 with a 1.67 ERA in 23 appearances with the Mud Hens. To make room for Gage on the 40-man roster, right-handed pitcher Jackson Jobe was transferred to the 60-day injured list.
