Rangers Bolster Bullpen with Jakob Junis
The Texas Rangers, in their quest to bolster their bullpen, have reached an agreement with right-handed reliever Jakob Junis on a one-year, $4 million contract. The news was confirmed this Sunday.
Junis, 33 years old, is recognized for his ability to throw strikes and avoid hard contact with the ball. Last season, playing for the Cleveland Guardians, he achieved an ERA of 2.97 in 57 appearances. In addition, he struck out 55 batters and gave up only 18 walks in 66⅔ innings, in his first season working exclusively from the bullpen.
Junis, who began his career as a starting pitcher with the Kansas City Royals, still maintains the ability to pitch multiple innings. Throughout his nine-year career, he has recorded an ERA of 4.36 in 847 innings, with a walk percentage of only six percent.
The arrival of Junis is one of several additions to the Rangers’ bullpen, which has undergone a notable renovation in the last two years. He joins names like Alex Diaz, Tyler Alexander, Carter Baumler, Zak Kent, and Chris Martin, the latter returning with a similar one-year deal and $4 million dollars.
