Jhonkensy Noel arrives to the Baltimore Orioles
The Baltimore Orioles have claimed Dominican outfielder Jhonkensy Noel, who arrives from the Cleveland Guardians’ waiver list. The announcement was made this Monday, marking a new stage for the 24-year-old player.
Noel, known as “Big Christmas”, had a promising debut in the Major Leagues. In his first season, he hit a home run in his first at-bat on June 26, 2024, at Camden Yards. In 67 games, he batted .218, with 13 home runs, 28 RBIs, and an OPS of .774.
His performance in the 2024 postseason was outstanding, hitting a crucial home run in Game 3 of the American League Championship Series. However, in 2025, his performance declined, recording a .162 average, with six home runs and 13 RBIs in 69 games.
In the minor leagues, Noel showed improvement, batting .273 with 12 home runs and an OPS of .831 in 61 games.
In Baltimore, Noel will reunite with Craig Albernaz, the new manager of the Orioles, who was the bench coach and associate manager of Cleveland during the Dominican’s time in that organization.
The Orioles are looking to strengthen their power from the right side of the plate, a quality that Noel could bring if he manages to adapt again to the Major League level.
The team has several options in the outfield, including Taylor Ward, Tyler O’Neill, and Dylan Beavers, while Jeremiah Jackson and Heston Kjerstad remain on the 40-man roster.
To make room for Noel, the Orioles designated right-handed pitcher George Soriano for assignment. The Dominican outfielder will have the opportunity to prove his worth during Spring Training, which will begin in mid-February.
