Sandy Brondello to Coach Toronto Tempo
Sandy Brondello has accepted the head coach position for the Toronto Tempo, the new WNBA expansion team, as Alofoke Deportes has been able to confirm.
The team is expected to make the official announcement in the coming days, once the contract is finalized.
Brondello, who received great interest from several organizations, finally decided on Toronto. The team plans to start competing in 2026, along with the other expansion team, the Portland Fire.
The Tempo will play their games at the Coca Cola Coliseum in Toronto, in addition to playing two regular season games in Montreal and two in Vancouver.
Brondello has a distinguished career in the league. She was selected for the All-Star in 1999 and led the Phoenix Mercury and the New York Liberty to win WNBA titles as a coach in 2014 and 2024, respectively. Her contract with the Liberty was not renewed after the elimination in the first round of the playoffs last season.
In addition, Brondello coaches the Australian national team, which he recently guided to the bronze medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
With the addition of Brondello, the only remaining head coaching vacancies in the WNBA are now those of the Dallas Wings, the Seattle Storm, and the New York Liberty.
