SAN FRANCISCO – New York Liberty star Sabrina Ionescu will miss her third straight game on Tuesday night against the Golden State Valkyries due to a left big toe injury. Head coach Sandy Brondello reported that Ionescu is being evaluated day by day. The injury, which she suffered last week during a practice, has kept her out of four of the last five games. Although Ionescu trained on Monday, Brondello indicated that she still didn’t feel comfortable authorizing Ionescu to play in San Francisco, a city located about 25 kilometers from her hometown, Walnut Creek.
The Liberty (24-16) started Tuesday night with the fifth-best record in the league, with four games remaining to finish the regular season.“This is her hometown, she has great support here,” Brondello commented. “Unfortunately, she can’t play tonight, but we have a long-term vision. We need her to recover because she is very important to what we are doing.”
