Indiana Fever Signs Odyssey Sims to Hardship Contract

The Indiana Fever women’s basketball team has finalized the signing of point guard Odyssey Sims through a hardship contract, the team announced this Sunday.

The Fever franchise was forced to resort to this type of contract due to the injuries that have ended the season for Sydney Colson and Aari McDonald.

Colson suffered a tear of the anterior cruciate ligament of the left knee, while McDonald suffered a fracture in a bone of the right foot.

Additionally, the team still doesn’t have Caitlin Clark, who has been out of the courts since July 16 due to a groin injury. Clark has missed 18 of the Fever’s 31 games so far this season.

With Colson, McDonald, and Clark out of the game, the Fever found themselves without a defined starting point guard, but they were unable to sign any players to a hardship contract before their August 9 game against the Chicago Sky. League rules state that injured players must miss one game before teams can sign someone new. The Fever only had nine players available in their 92-70 victory against the Sky.

The addition of Sims provides the team with a veteran player in this crucial position. Sims started the season with the Los Angeles Sparks, where she averaged 9.8 points and 3.5 assists in the 12 games she played with the team, before being released last month.
