Significant Losses for the Indiana Fever: Sydney Colson and Aari McDonald Out Due to Injury
The Indiana Fever suffer a hard blow after the injuries of Sydney Colson and Aari McDonald are confirmed, who will miss the rest of the 2025 WNBA season. The news comes after the team’s defeat on Thursday against the Phoenix Mercury, where both players suffered the injuries.
Colson suffered a tear of the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his left knee in the first quarter of the game. McDonald, for his part, fractured a bone in his right foot in the last quarter of the match.
The team was already depleted, not counting Caitlin Clark, who has been absent for most of this season’s games due to quadriceps and groin injuries. Clark has not played since July 15 and still has no return date.
For Saturday’s next game against the Chicago Sky, the Fever will have only nine players available and no pure point guards. Due to league rules, they will not be able to add an emergency player until after the game. On Tuesday, the team will host the Dallas Wings.
Colson, who arrived at the Fever as a free agent, brought experience and leadership to the team. In the games played, she averaged 2.4 points, 2.0 assists, and 0.5 steals in 13.5 minutes per game.
McDonald was initially hired to fill in for Clark, and signed a contract for the rest of the season in June. In the 20 games she played, McDonald averaged 9.8 points, 4.7 assists, and 1.3 steals.
The Fever, who currently have a 17-14 record and are in fifth place, had won five straight games before suffering two consecutive losses against Los Angeles and Phoenix.
