The star DeWanna Bonner is happy to be back in Phoenix, where she began her successful career in the WNBA. After playing ten seasons with the Mercury, Bonner spent five years with the Connecticut Sun and had a brief stint with the Indiana Fever at the beginning of the 2025 season. However, after not working as expected, she signed with Phoenix earlier this month.
The 37-year-old forward prefers to focus on her future with Phoenix, putting aside the past and what didn’t work in Indiana, where the team released her. Bonner found the rumor that she was upset about coming off the bench after starting in the first games with the Fever funny. In the inaugural game, she moved up to third place on the WNBA’s all-time scoring list.I wouldn’t change anything. My journey is mine and I accept it. Phoenix began a five-game road trip in New York on Friday night, losing 89-76, where Bonner scored nine points. DB is a very good addition for us. She can play in positions 2, 3 and 4, and even in the 5, depending on the lineups we use in the future. She has won championships. In her second game with us, we went to Golden State, we had some injuries and she scored 22 points and 11 rebounds. We wouldn’t have won that game without her, so she has been a great addition for us. The Mercury will head to Indiana on Wednesday, and Bonner said she is not sure what the fans’ reaction will be.That was never the problem. That has never been me. I have no problem coming off the bench. I’ve never been that kind of player. I don’t think I have that reputation.
