A’ja Wilson Makes History: Four-Time MVP in the WNBA

A’ja Wilson continues to make her mark on the history of women’s basketball. The Las Vegas Aces star has been awarded the WNBA’s Most Valuable Player (MVP) award for the fourth time, solidifying her position as one of the most dominant figures in the league.

This achievement marks a significant milestone, as Wilson becomes the first player in WNBA history to obtain this prestigious recognition four times. This is the second consecutive year that Wilson has won the award.

The competition for this year’s MVP was fierce, with Napheesa Collier of the Minnesota Lynx as one of the main contenders. Allisha Gray (Atlanta Dream), Kelsey Mitchell (Indiana Fever), and Alyssa Thomas (Phoenix Mercury) were also finalists.

With this new award, Wilson surpasses legends like Sheryl Swoopes, Lisa Leslie, and Lauren Jackson, who have won the MVP three times.

In 2024, Wilson joined Cynthia Cooper of the 1997 Houston Comets as the only players to be unanimously selected MVP.

Wilson was also named MVP in 2020 and 2022.

Wilson led the WNBA with an average of 23.4 points and 2.3 blocks per game, playing for the Aces, who ranked second. Collier, for her part, was the most outstanding player on the league’s best team, averaging 22.9 points and 7.3 rebounds per game.
