Venus and Serena Williams Launch Youth Excellence Program
The legendary tennis players Venus and Serena Williams have joined forces in a new initiative with the aim of providing opportunities to young people from communities with limited resources through tennis and education.
The program, called “Williams Family Excellence Program”, was announced on Thursday at the US Open, in collaboration with the USTA Foundation. Venus Williams was present at the ceremony held on the court during the women’s semifinals.
The program will focus on post-secondary education and professional development, seeking to impact more than 2,500 young people between the ages of 13 and 25 annually by the year 2035. USTA Foundation community organizations will identify and recruit young people from disadvantaged communities with athletic potential and financial needs.
The program will offer high-performance training at no cost or low cost, guidance for university admission, and access to camps and competitions.
Venus Williams, at 45 years old, participated in singles, doubles, and mixed doubles at this year’s US Open. Serena, her younger sister, has won 23 Grand Slam singles titles, and together, the sisters have accumulated 14 more doubles titles.
