Djokovic Advances in Shanghai Despite Physical Difficulties

SHANGHAI – Novak Djokovic overcame a demanding match at the Shanghai Masters, achieving a victory over Jaume Munar with a score of 6-3, 5-7, 6-2. The match took place in hot and humid conditions that tested the physical endurance of both players. After losing the second set, Djokovic requested medical assistance following a long exchange that culminated in a forehand error. The Serbian tennis player collapsed on the court, showing signs of exhaustion. The tennis player received medical treatment before the start of the third set, but managed to recover quickly, breaking Munar’s serve immediately. Djokovic, 38 years old, chose not to participate in the traditional post-match interview, but shared his impressions on social media.

With this victory, Djokovic becomes the oldest player to reach the quarterfinals in an ATP Masters 1000 event, surpassing Roger Federer’s previous record. Djokovic is seeking his 41st title in Masters tournaments, which would extend his own record. In his next match, he will face Zizou Bergs from Belgium. On the other hand, Holger Rune, tenth seed, also overcame a tough challenge by defeating Frenchman Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard with a score of 6-4, 6-7 (7), 6-3.
