US Open 2025: Prize Money Reaches Record High

The 2025 US Open promises to be a historic event, not only for the competition on the court, but also for the impressive amount of prize money that will be distributed. The tournament will increase its prizes to almost $85 million across all competitions, marking a milestone in the history of tennis. Individual champions, in both the women’s and men’s categories, will receive a record sum of $5 million each. This significant increase reflects the tournament’s commitment to player compensation. The total compensation for players will increase by 20%, reaching $90 million, the highest figure ever seen in tennis. This increase comes at a time when the sport’s top players have been in talks with the four most important tournaments to secure a larger share of the revenue. The United States Tennis Association (USTA) announced the amounts on Wednesday, highlighting the new mixed doubles event that will begin on August 19 and 20, with a top prize of $1 million. The individual competition will begin on Sunday, August 24, expanding the draws from 14 to 15 days.

This year, the $5 million prize represents a 39% increase over last year’s $3.6 million.

This 39% increase also applies to the individual runners-up, who will receive $2.5 million each. The semi-finalists will earn $1.26 million, representing a 26% increase. In Wimbledon, which concluded last month, the prize money increased by approximately 7%, reaching nearly $73 million. The individual champions received around $4 million each. In New York, the winning teams in women’s and men’s doubles will receive $1 million, a new record for these events at the US Open. Total prize money for qualifying will increase to $8 million, a 10% increase. The total of $85 million in prize money for the 2025 US Open includes the individual categories, doubles, qualifying, and wheelchair events. This announcement comes after the USTA revealed in May that Arthur Ashe Stadium, its main arena, would be renovated as part of an $800 million project, considered the “largest single investment” in the history of the US Open.
