Djokovic Advances to Shanghai Masters Semifinals

Shanghai – Novak Djokovic secured a solid victory at the Shanghai Masters, defeating Zizou Bergs with a score of 6-3, 7-5 to secure his place in the semifinals of the tournament. In the next round, Djokovic will face the number 204 ranked player, Valentin Vacherot, from Monaco. Djokovic, known for his tenacity, has faced challenges in the warm and humid conditions of Shanghai. In previous matches, the tennis player has experienced physical difficulties, including episodes of vomiting and the need for medical attention, demonstrating the demands of the tournament. The only moment of trouble for Djokovic in the match against Bergs was when he suffered a break while leading 5-4 in the second set. However, he managed to close out the match in the end, converting his third match point.

I should have closed the match at 5-4. The conditions are very challenging for all players, and I was just trying to stay on the court. I’m glad to overcome this obstacle.

This match marked the first encounter between Djokovic and Bergs. After the match, Bergs expressed his admiration for Djokovic with a smile and a hug at the net. In another exciting match, Vacherot surprised the tenth seed, Holger Rune, with a score of 2-6, 7-6 (4), 6-4. This result makes Vacherot the second semifinalist with the lowest ranking in Masters 1000 events in the last 35 years, according to ATP data.

This is simply incredible. I didn’t come as a qualifier, I came as an alternate. I wasn’t even sure I would play the qualifying.
