In an exciting final that kept spectators on the edge of their seats, the world’s number one tennis player, Iga Swiatek, achieved an impressive comeback to defeat Ekaterina Alexandrova and be crowned champion of the Korea Open. The match, played at the Seoul Olympic Park Tennis Center, saw Swiatek overcome a difficult first set to finally prevail with scores of 1-6, 7-6 (3) and 7-5, after almost three hours of intense play. Despite a complicated start, where she conceded her serve on five occasions, committed nine double faults, and was outscored by Alexandrova, Swiatek demonstrated her composure and experience to reverse the situation.

“Honestly, I don’t know how I won because you were playing incredibly,” commented Swiatek, acknowledging her opponent’s great performance. “I just tried to stay alive.”

The world number two praised Alexandrova’s performance, who dominated the first set in just 30 minutes. “We hope to play more finals because it’s always difficult against you, but it’s also entertaining,” added Swiatek. This victory represents the third title of the year and the twenty-fifth in the career of the Polish tennis player, who previously won the Cincinnati Open and Wimbledon. Swiatek, with a 25-5 record in WTA finals, also celebrated a personal achievement with this victory. “I am happy to have won here for family history,” she said, recalling her father’s participation in the 1988 Seoul Olympics.
