Swiatek crushes at Wimbledon: Semifinalist after defeating Samsonova!

Iga Swiatek, known for her successes on clay, especially at Roland Garros, has reached the Wimbledon semi-finals for the first time in her career.

Swiatek achieved this feat after defeating Liudmila Samsonova with a score of 6-2 and 7-5, demonstrating her adaptation to the grass surface.

With this victory, Swiatek joins a select group of tennis players who have reached the semifinals in all four Grand Slam tournaments. This group includes Aryna Sabalenka, Victoria Azarenka, and Karolina Pliskova.

The match against Samsonova, which marked her first appearance in the quarterfinals of a Grand Slam, began with Swiatek’s dominance, but turned into a more contested match in the final phase of the second set.

Swiatek, after securing her place in the semifinals, expressed her excitement and pride for this achievement, highlighting the effort made to improve her performance on grass.

“Even though I’m in the middle of the tournament, I already have goosebumps after this victory. I am super happy and very proud of myself.”

Despite the fact that Wimbledon’s grass has historically presented challenges to her, Swiatek has shown a remarkable evolution on this surface, as demonstrated by her recent performance.

Before Wimbledon, Swiatek was a finalist in Bad Homburg, Germany, marking her first grass court final and the end of a drought of more than a year without reaching a final.

Since 2023, Swiatek has accumulated an impressive record of 17 wins in 20 matches on grass, a significant change from her previous performance on this surface.

Swiatek, who also won the US Open in 2022, is looking to become the eighth woman to win Grand Slam titles on hard court, clay, and grass.

In the semifinals, Swiatek will face Belinda Bencic, who also reaches her first Wimbledon semifinal.

Swiatek, along with Sabalenka, has reached the semi-finals at the Australian Open, Roland Garros, and Wimbledon this year. The last time multiple women reached the semi-finals in each of the first three Grand Slams was in 2006.
