Jannik Sinner dispelled concerns about his right elbow, injured in his previous match, by defeating Ben Shelton in straight sets this Wednesday, securing his place in the Wimbledon semi-finals. Sinner, who wore a white sleeve on his elbow, won with scores of 7-6 (2), 6-4, 6-4 in the first match between the top ten on the men’s side in this year’s tournament. The tennis player, a three-time Grand Slam champion, advanced to his fourth consecutive semi-final in a tournament of this category. Recently, he suffered a defeat against the defending Wimbledon champion in the final of the French Open last month. The world number one, Sinner, was injured after slipping and falling in the first game of his fourth-round match against Grigor Dimitrov on Monday night. Sinner felt pain when hitting serves or forehands and lost the first two sets of that match, but advanced to the quarterfinals when Dimitrov was forced to retire in the third set due to a pectoral muscle injury.

He improved a lot from yesterday to today. Yesterday, my time on the practice court was very short. This is not an excuse… there is no better setting to play tennis, the atmosphere helps me.

Sinner will have a day of rest before facing the winner of the match between Novak Djokovic, champion of 24 Grand Slam tournaments, or Flavio Cobolli, seeded number 22, who played this Wednesday on the center court. Shelton, a 22-year-old American and world number 10, was looking to reach his third semifinal of a major tournament and join his compatriot Taylor Fritz, who won on Tuesday and will face Alcaraz on Friday.
