Aryna Sabalenka Withdraws from the Canadian Open

The world number one, Aryna Sabalenka, has decided to withdraw from the National Bank Open, a tournament held in Montreal. The Belarusian tennis player has chosen to take an additional break before beginning her preparation to defend her US Open title.

I’m looking forward to starting the hard court tour in North America, but to give myself the best chance of success this season, I’ve decided that the best thing for me is to skip Montreal.

Sabalenka’s statement was provided by the tournament on Wednesday. Sabalenka reached the Wimbledon semi-finals, where she was defeated. The National Bank Open will start on July 27. The tennis player could return for the Cincinnati Open in early August, before the first round of the US Open begins on August 24. Sabalenka won that title for the first time in 2024. The tournament also announced that Paula Badosa, ranked number 10, has withdrawn due to an injury. Caty McNally and Moyuka Uchijima will replace Sabalenka and Badosa in the main draw.
