US Open champion Aryna Sabalenka continues her winning streak at the Wuhan Open, achieving her nineteenth consecutive victory. This Thursday, Sabalenka defeated Liudmila Samsonova with a score of 6-3, 6-2, securing her place in the quarterfinals of the WTA 1000 tournament.

Sabalenka’s impressive streak includes titles in Wuhan in 2018, 2019, and 2024, solidifying her dominance in this prestigious event.

Iga Swiatek, ranked number 2, also advanced in the tournament, after defeating Belinda Bencic with a score of 7-6 (2), 6-4. Swiatek improves her personal record against Bencic to 5-1, including a straight-sets victory in the Wimbledon semifinals in July.

In the quarterfinals, Sabalenka will face Elena Rybakina, who, seeking to secure a place in the WTA Finals in Saudi Arabia, defeated Linda Noskova with a score of 6-3, 6-4.

For her part, Swiatek will face Jasmine Paolini, who advanced to the next round after Clara Tauson withdrew from the match, with a score of 3-6, 6-1, 3-1 in favor of Paolini.

Jessica Pegula, after recovering from a service break in the third set, managed to defeat Ekaterina Alexandrova with a score of 7-5, 3-6, 6-3, securing her place in the quarterfinals.

The victory over Alexandrova comes a day after Pegula needed seven match points to overcome Hailey Baptiste in the second round.

This was Pegula’s sixth consecutive match that went to three sets, and the fifth time she achieved victory in these circumstances.

In the closing match, Coco Gauff, after her semi-final defeat at the China Open, defeated Zhang Shuai with a score of 6-3, 6-2.
