Naomi Osaka advances to the quarterfinals at the US Open after defeating Coco Gauff

In a dominant tennis display, Naomi Osaka defeated Coco Gauff with a score of 6-3, 6-2 at the US Open. This triumph marks Osaka’s return to the quarterfinals of a Grand Slam, an achievement she hadn’t reached in over four and a half years.

The Japanese tennis player, seeded number 23, demonstrated a superior level of play to Gauff, who made several crucial errors in the match played at Arthur Ashe Stadium. Osaka did not face any break points and only conceded six points on her serve.

This advance represents Osaka’s fifth Grand Slam quarterfinal, and her first since giving birth to her daughter Shai in July 2023. It is noteworthy that each time Osaka has reached this stage in a Grand Slam tournament, she has ended up winning the championship.

Osaka, 27, born in Japan and who moved to the United States with her family at age 3, has four Grand Slam titles to her name, all obtained on hard courts. Among them, the US Open championships in 2018 and 2020 stand out.
