The previous week, during a WTA tournament in Seoul, the 29-year-old tennis player experienced breathing difficulties and hand tremors while resting between games. A physiotherapist checked her blood pressure before she continued playing. Haddad Maia, who was defending the title in Seoul, won her first-round match, but then lost in the round of 16 against Ella Seidel. The Brazilian led 5-2 in the third set and had a match point, but lost the last five consecutive games. In the 2025 season, Haddad Maia, who was previously among the top 10 players in the world, lost 26 of her 42 matches.
