Goffin Rallies and Advances in the Shanghai Masters

Former world number 7 David Goffin showed his experience by recovering from a tight tie-break in the first set to dominate Alexandre Müller at the Shanghai Masters. Goffin secured a victory with scores of 6-7 (6), 6-1 and 6-1 in the first round of the tournament. At 34 years old, Goffin has an impressive record that includes four Grand Slam quarter-finals, six ATP titles and a final at the Cincinnati Masters 1000. The seeded players in Shanghai enjoyed a bye in the first round. Tennis players like Jannik Sinner, winner of the China Open in Beijing, and Novak Djokovic, will wait until Friday to play their second-round matches. Djokovic, seeded fourth and a four-time champion in Shanghai, returns to competition after his defeat to Carlos Alcaraz in the US Open semi-finals. Alcaraz, who defeated Taylor Fritz in the final of the Japan Open on Tuesday, announced his withdrawal from the Shanghai tournament after his victory in Tokyo.

I have been dealing with some physical issues and, after discussing with my team, we believe the best decision is to rest and recover.
