Alcaraz advances steadily in the US Open

The world number two, Carlos Alcaraz, continues his dominant performance at the US Open, securing a straight-set victory over Arthur Rinderknech with scores of 7-6 (3), 6-3, and 6-4 at Arthur Ashe Stadium. This victory grants him his thirteenth appearance in the quarterfinals of a Grand Slam tournament. At 22 years and 3 months old, Alcaraz equals Boris Becker in terms of the most appearances in the quarterfinals of a Grand Slam before turning 23, in the Open era. Alcaraz has maintained his undefeated record without conceding sets in the four rounds played, winning 54 out of 55 service games and facing only eight break points.

“I think my tennis style suits the energy that is experienced here in New York very well. I just love it, I think that’s why I play my best tennis here,” commented Alcaraz on his success at Flushing Meadows.

The Spanish tennis player has won 34 of his last 35 matches at tournament level, including 10 consecutive since his defeat in the Wimbledon final against Jannik Sinner. His victory on Sunday represents his number 21 in the US Open, being the third with the most victories in his first five participations in the New York tournament in the Open Era. Only John McEnroe (28) and Lleyton Hewitt (23) surpass this mark. Rinderknech, who played college tennis at Texas A&M, was competing in the fourth round of a Grand Slam for the first time in his career. In his next challenge, Alcaraz will face the number 20 seed, Jiri Lehecka, who defeated Adrian Mannarino with scores of 7-6 (4), 6-4, 2-6 and 6-2, thus achieving his second appearance in the quarterfinals of a Grand Slam and the first at Flushing Meadows.
