Leylah Fernandez Crowned Champion at the Japan Open

Tennis player Leylah Fernandez won the title at the WTA Japan Open, after defeating the young Tereza Valentova in an exciting final.

Fernandez, who faced the 18-year-old qualifier, Valentova, managed to prevail with partial scores of 6-0, 5-7 and 6-3, thus securing her fifth title in her professional career.

The final, which marked Fernandez’s eighth appearance in a final of his career, proved to be an encounter full of ups and downs.

Fernandez dominated the first set in just 29 minutes, but Valentova reacted with determination in the second set, managing to tie the match by breaking Fernandez’s serve in the twelfth game.

In the decisive set, Fernandez, currently ranked number 27, achieved a crucial break in the fourth game. Despite the Czech player’s resistance, Fernandez maintained her advantage and secured her second title of the season, after winning the Washington Open in July.
