Djokovic Advances to Semifinals in Shanghai

In a remarkable day at the Shanghai Masters, Novak Djokovic secured his place in the semifinals after defeating Zizou Bergs with scores of 6-3, 7-5. The Serbian tennis player, who faced challenging conditions, demonstrated his quality to overcome his opponent and advance in the tournament. Djokovic, seeking a place in the final, will face the number 204 ranked player, Valentin Vacherot, from Monaco, in the next phase. The match against Bergs marked the first encounter between both players. Djokovic, although facing a moment of tension when broken in the second set while leading 5-4, managed to stay calm and close out the match on his third match point.

I should have closed the match at 5-4. The conditions are very challenging for all players, and I was just trying to stay on the court. I’m glad I overcame this obstacle.

For his part, Vacherot pulled off a surprise by defeating the tenth seed, Holger Rune, with a score of 2-6, 7-6 (4), 6-4. This result makes him the second semifinalist with the lowest ranking in Masters 1000 events in the last 35 years, according to the ATP.

This is simply incredible. I didn’t come as a qualifier, I came as an alternate. I wasn’t even sure I was going to play the qualifying.

Rune, affected by leg cramps during the third set, couldn’t keep up the pace and yielded to Vacherot’s performance.
