LONDON – Argentine tennis player Facundo Bagnis has chosen to begin a voluntary provisional suspension in a doping case, as announced this Thursday by the International Tennis Integrity Agency.
The decision comes after testing positive for a substance included in the category of diuretics and masking agents.
The test was carried out during the US Open qualifying phase in August.
Bagnis, 35 years old, suffered his sixth consecutive defeat in the Grand Slam qualifying rounds in that competition.
His best position in the ATP ranking was 55th, achieved in 2016.
Bagnis was notified of the results this month and decided to begin the provisional suspension last week. If a sanction is imposed, the time of the provisional suspension will be counted as part of it.
