Paula Badosa Injured, Putting Her US Open Participation in Doubt
Spanish tennis player Paula Badosa is once again dealing with physical problems. A back injury will keep her off the courts for several weeks, raising concerns about her participation in the upcoming US Open. Badosa, currently ranked number 10 in the world ranking, has experienced a complicated year in terms of injuries. After overcoming various ailments, including chronic problems in the lumbar area, the tennis player had managed to climb positions and return to the top 10. The news of the injury comes after her defeat in the first round of Wimbledon against Katie Boulter. In a statement issued on Monday, Badosa revealed that she had suffered a tear in the psoas, a muscle that connects the lower back to the upper leg.The injury, according to the tennis player herself, occurred before her participation in Wimbledon. Badosa plans to participate with Stefanos Tsitsipas in the mixed doubles event of the US Open, which will take place a week before the main singles draw, scheduled from August 24 to September 7.“These are really difficult moments for me, but I remain hopeful that things will change soon and the light at the end of the tunnel will begin to shine,” expressed Badosa.
