Amanda Anisimova Crowned Champion of the China Open
Amanda Anisimova, seeded number three, won the China Open after defeating Linda Noskova in the final of the hard court tournament. The final score was 6-0, 2-6 and 6-2. Anisimova, who previously eliminated Coco Gauff in the semifinals, secured the victory with a winning backhand and celebrated her first victory in the tournament. Noskova put up a tough fight, but her performance waned in the final moments of the match, which lasted 1 hour and 46 minutes. Anisimova, runner-up at the US Open and Wimbledon this year and currently ranked number 4 in the world, won her second WTA 1000 title of the season, adding to the one she obtained in Doha in February.Noskova, 20, had saved three match points in the semifinals, becoming the youngest Czech player to advance that far in a WTA 1000 event since the format was introduced in 2009. Anisimova needed only 23 minutes to win the first set, taking advantage of the three break points. Noskova forced a decisive set after breaking Anisimova’s serve at the beginning of the second set. The American player then raised her game and won the last four games. Anisimova became the third American player to win the trophy, following in the footsteps of Serena Williams (2004, ’13) and Gauff. It’s been a few weeks for me, for sure. I feel like I’ve learned a lot about myself. I think I can take a lot of positives and see it as great progress for me, simply discovering ways to face certain challenges and push myself in moments when I feel like I can’t go on.
