Alcaraz Reclaims ATP Ranking Number 1

Carlos Alcaraz has officially regained the top spot in the ATP ranking, displacing Jannik Sinner after his victory in the US Open final. Alcaraz, after defeating Sinner, returns to the top for the first time in two years. In the women’s branch, Amanda Anisimova climbed five positions, reaching her best historical ranking by placing at number 4 in the WTA ranking, after her performance at the US Open.

Alcaraz achieved victory over Sinner with a score of 6-2, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 at Arthur Ashe Stadium. Sinner had held the number 1 spot since June 2024, for 65 weeks. Alcaraz, who first reached number 1 in September 2022, at the age of 19, became the youngest number 1 in ATP history, after winning his first major championship at the US Open that year. He lost that ranking in September 2023. Alexander Zverev remains in the number 3 position, while Novak Djokovic moved up three positions, from 7th to 4th. Aryna Sabalenka secured her number 1 ranking by reaching the quarterfinals in New York, and then won her second consecutive title at the US Open.

The women’s final was played against Amanda Anisimova, where Sabalenka won with a score of 6-3, 7-6 (3).

Anisimova, after her performance, managed to climb five positions in the ranking. Iga Swiatek, eliminated in the quarterfinals of the US Open, remained in the number 2 position, followed by Coco Gauff. Jessica Pegula dropped from number 4 to 7. Naomi Osaka moved up from 24th to 14th place after reaching the semifinals.
