Carlos Alcaraz, current world number one, paid tribute to his medical team after overcoming concerns about an ankle injury and advancing to the quarterfinals of the Japan Open. The Spanish tennis player showed signs of concern after twisting his left ankle during his opening match on Thursday. However, Alcaraz managed a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Zizou Bergs.
This victory secures him a place in the quarterfinals against American Brandon Nakashima.
“I said it before and I’m going to repeat it, I have the best physiotherapist in the world in whom I trust 100%, and the work he has done for the ankle, I think, has been excellent. I was able to play, I would say, normally. I was worried about some movements on the court where I could feel the ankle, but overall I think I played a great match,” expressed Alcaraz.
