Naomi Osaka Faces Health Challenges at the United Cup

Tennis player Naomi Osaka, winner of four Grand Slam singles titles, is dealing with health issues during her participation in the United Cup. Following her initial defeat representing Japan against Maria Sakkari of Greece, Osaka revealed that she has been “really sick” during the holiday period. This affected her performance in the match, which ended with a score of 6-4 and 6-2. During the match, Osaka was seen coughing on several occasions and showing a lack of energy. The tennis player attributed her illness, possibly, to a contagion from her two-year-old daughter, Shai.

I’ve been dealing with some health issues, so I’m happy to be here right now. It’s not serious, but I’m not performing at the percentage I want, which is a shame, because I had a very good preseason and I thought I would do very well here.

Osaka, who reached the semifinals of the US Open last year, indicated that she believes she is in the final phase of the illness.

I’m in the final stage, but I still don’t feel incredible. I’m trying to improve every day. I had a cough, runny nose, all those nasty things, so I hope they disappear before the Australian Open.
