Haji Wright Highlights Frank Lampard’s Impact on His Rise

The American striker Haji Wright has expressed his admiration for the Premier League legend and current Coventry City coach, Frank Lampard, attributing his excellent start to the 2025-26 Championship season to working with the former footballer.

Lampard has been a great inspiration to me since he arrived. He has shown me a lot of confidence, he has been able to help me in training and in matches to… simply perform at my best.

These statements were made by the 27-year-old player before the United States friendly against Ecuador on October 10. Wright highlighted Lampard’s approachability and support, mentioning that the coach has been key to bringing out the best in him. After recovering from an Achilles tendon injury suffered in the summer, which kept him out of much of the 2025 Gold Cup, Wright has performed outstandingly at Coventry. He has scored nine goals and provided an assist in his last ten matches in all competitions. Wright also shared his frustration at not being able to actively participate in the Gold Cup with the US national team. He focused on recovering and preparing for the season, with the aim of regaining his place in the national team. Currently, Wright leads the Championship’s top scorer table. Coventry is at the top of the standings with five wins and four draws in nine games. Lampard’s team remains undefeated so far this season. After scoring a goal last week in the 5-0 victory against Sheffield Wednesday, Wright will look to maintain his good form with the US national team against Ecuador this Friday, and then against Australia on October 14, to close out this month’s international break.
