UEFA Rejects Real Madrid’s Appeal Over Player Sanctions
UEFA has dismissed the appeal filed by Real Madrid regarding the disciplinary sanctions imposed on Antonio Rüdiger, Kylian Mbappé, and Dani Ceballos.
The players were sanctioned for “improper conduct” during the Champions League round of 16 match against Atlético de Madrid.
Rüdiger, Mbappé, and Ceballos were fined 40,000, 30,000, and 20,000 euros, respectively, for violating basic rules of decent conduct.
Additionally, Rüdiger and Mbappé were suspended for one match, although this suspension will only apply in case of a repeat offense.
The UEFA Appeals Body determined that there were no grounds to revoke the disciplinary measures issued on April 4 by its Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body.
UEFA’s investigation began after Rüdiger was caught making a throat-slitting gesture towards Atlético fans, while Mbappé grabbed his genitals during the team’s celebrations.
Ceballos was found guilty of violating the basic rules of decent conduct after provoking the fans at the Metropolitano stadium.
