Tottenham Hotspur Condemns Racist Attacks Against Mathys Tel

Tottenham Hotspur has expressed its “disgust” following the racist attacks suffered by forward Mathys Tel on social media, after the defeat in the UEFA Super Cup against Paris Saint-Germain. Tel missed a penalty in the shootout that ultimately gave PSG the victory by 4-3, after Tottenham squandered a 2-0 lead in the final minutes of the match, ending regulation time with a 2-2 draw. The French footballer, whose transfer from Bayern Munich was made permanent in June for £30 million, was the target of insults after missing his penalty.

The club issued a statement in which it stated: “Mathys showed courage in stepping up and taking a penalty, but those who insult him are nothing more than cowards, hiding behind usernames and anonymous profiles to express their horrible opinions.” “We will work with the authorities and social media platforms to take the most energetic measures possible against any individual we can identify. We are with you, Mathys.” The Tottenham were leading the score 2-0 until the 85th minute at the Bluenergy Stadium in Udine, Italy, thanks to goals from Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero, before Lee Kang-in and Gonçalo Ramos tied the match for PSG.
