Messi close to extending his link with Inter Miami
Lionel Messi and Inter Miami are close to finalizing a new multi-year contract for the team captain. Sources close to the negotiation confirm that only a few details remain to be agreed upon.
The two parties are in the final stages of the negotiation process, and the agreement is expected to be finalized soon.
Once Messi and Inter Miami resolve the last details, the contract will be sent to Major League Soccer (MLS) for final approval.
Despite previous reports linking Messi with clubs from other leagues, both Inter Miami and the Argentine star always maintained their interest in continuing their relationship on and off the field.Lionel Messi has led Inter Miami to its first titles, with the inaugural 2023 Leagues Cup, followed by the 2024 Supporters’ Shield and a league record for the most points in a single season.Messi first signed with Inter Miami on July 15, 2023, arriving in South Florida with a two-and-a-half-year contract that ends at the end of the 2025 season.
Messi’s impact on the club was immediate, propelling Inter Miami to win the inaugural 2023 Leagues Cup a few weeks after his debut. Since joining the team, Messi has inspired Inter Miami to set the league record for the most points in a single season and to lift the 2024 Supporters’ Shield.
In 2025, Messi has played 36 matches with Inter Miami and has recorded a total of 28 goals and 14 assists in all competitions, including the Concacaf Champions Cup, the Club World Cup, the MLS and the Leagues Cup. He is currently the team’s top scorer.
Inter Miami co-owner Jorge Mas previously said the club will do everything possible to ensure Messi feels comfortable signing a contract renewal and retiring in South Florida.
