Manchester City Fined for Game Delays

Manchester City has been fined more than £1 million by the Premier League due to breaches related to delays in kick-offs and game restarts during the past season. The announcement was made on Thursday by the top category of English football. This fine comes a year after City paid £2 million to the league for breaching the same rules on delays in the game. The club has accepted and apologized for the violations, confirming that they have reminded their players and staff of their responsibilities to comply with the rules.

The rules related to kick-offs and restarts help ensure that the organization of the competition is established to the highest possible professional standard and provides certainty to fans and participating clubs. It also ensures that the broadcast of each Premier League match is maintained as scheduled.

League Statement
Fines totaling £1.08 million were imposed in relation to City’s home matches against Southampton, Tottenham Hotspur, Nottingham Forest, Manchester United, West Ham United and Newcastle United, and their away matches against Crystal Palace, Aston Villa and Ipswich Town. The longest delays in the matches were two minutes and 22 seconds each, in the restarts against West Ham and Ipswich. City is awaiting the verdict on 115 unrelated charges for alleged breaches of Financial Fair Play (FFP) rules. The charges cover a period that begins in 2009 and continues until the 2022-23 season. City has always denied any wrongdoing.
