Lille Seeks to Bolster its Attack with Olivier Giroud

Lille has shown interest in signing French striker Olivier Giroud, currently with LAFC. A source confirmed the news. Giroud, 38, joined LAFC a year ago after his contract with AC Milan ended. Despite his outstanding career as France’s all-time top scorer, with 57 goals, Giroud has only scored three times in 20 MLS matches. His first goal came in his sixteenth appearance. Giroud is under contract with LAFC until the end of the 2025 season, with an option for 2026.
Olivier Giroud has struggled to meet expectations at LAFC.A possible transfer to Lille would mean Giroud’s return to Ligue 1, the French first division, since he joined Arsenal in 2012. However, the guaranteed salary of $3.68 million that Giroud receives as a designated player at LAFC could be an obstacle for Lille. Lille finished last season in Ligue 1 in fifth position, which secured them a place in the next Europa League. Giroud, world champion with France in 2018, also played for Chelsea, where he won the Champions League in 2021.
