French striker Olivier Giroud has agreed to terminate his contract with LAFC and will join the French club Lille this summer.
The 2018 world champion had six months remaining on his contract in California, but expressed his desire to return home, 13 years after his departure from Ligue 1.
LAFC’s management did not stand in his way and an agreement was reached for the player to leave the club, which he joined in 2024. His last match with LAFC will be on Sunday against Vancouver. Lille was looking for an experienced player to lead its young squad. Giroud will replace Jonathan David, who left the club at the end of his contract.
The former Arsenal striker did not have a prominent spell in the United States, with only five goals in 37 appearances in all competitions.
His last stint in Ligue 1 was with Montpellier, a team with which he won an unexpected title in 2012 before his transfer to the Premier League.
