The young Brazilian talent Estêvão dazzled in his debut with Chelsea, scoring a goal at 18 minutes of his first pre-season match against Bayer Leverkusen, at Stamford Bridge, with a 2-0 victory. The 18-year-old footballer demonstrated his goalscoring ability by finishing with his left foot after a shot from Cole Palmer that rebounded off the crossbar, making a dream start to his time at Chelsea, a year after signing with the Premier League club. The midfielder, coming from Palmeiras, was signed by Chelsea in July 2024. The initial agreement was for 34 million euros, with possible add-ons that could raise the figure to about 67 million euros. Estêvão remained at Palmeiras last season before joining the team in London this week.

Estêvão’s previous encounter was against Chelsea in the Club World Cup quarter-finals, where Enzo Maresca’s team emerged victorious, on their way to lifting the trophy. The match on Friday was Chelsea’s first pre-season game, less than four weeks after defeating Paris Saint-Germain in the final at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.
João Pedro, who made his debut at the Club World Cup after signing from Brighton, scored Chelsea’s second goal, sealing the victory in the 90th minute with a low shot into the back of the net. In addition to Estêvão and Pedro, new signings Liam Delap, Jorrel Hato and Jamie Gittens also debuted at Stamford Bridge. Gittens, who came on as a substitute in the second half, was close to assisting Estêvão for his second goal, but the Brazilian international sent the ball wide. Chelsea has one more match in their pre-season, against AC Milan on Sunday, before starting their Premier League campaign at home against Crystal Palace a week later.
