Gabriel Jesus, Mathys Tel, and Federico Chiesa are some of the notable absences in the 25-player squads of their respective clubs for this season’s Champions League. Gabriel Jesus hasn’t played since January, after undergoing knee surgery. Meanwhile, Arsenal has included young Max Dowman in their squad, following his striking performances in the Premier League this season. The 15-year-old became the second-youngest debutant in the Premier League after coming off the bench in Arsenal’s victory over Leeds United and also featured in their defeat to Liverpool last weekend. In North London, Tottenham manager Thomas Frank has chosen to leave Tel out of his Champions League squad. The forward was the first signing of the Frank era, after his loan from Bayern Munich was made permanent in the summer. The other new summer signings for the Spurs, Xavi Simons, João Palhinha, Mohammed Kudus and Randal Kolo Muani, have been included. Liverpool manager Arne Slot had previously said Chiesa was “totally different” this season, but has left the Italian international out of his Champions League squad. However, Liverpool’s teenage star Rio Ngumoha, who scored a dramatic goal against Newcastle United, has been included in the squad. The Manchester City has included four goalkeepers in its squad of 25 players, including new signings James Trafford and Gianluigi Donnarumma. As expected, Chelsea has left Raheem Sterling out of their squad, and new signing Federico Buonanotte is also absent.
