Lionel Messi, Inter Miami star, suffered a hamstring injury during the Leagues Cup match against Club Necaxa. The incident occurred in the 11th minute of the match, forcing the Argentine star to leave the field and go directly to the locker room at Chase Stadium in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Messi, while attempting a play inside the area, collided with Raúl Sánchez and Alexis Peña, players from Necaxa. After the collision, the Inter Miami captain collapsed on the field, showing gestures of frustration. Although he tried to continue playing for a few minutes, he finally requested medical assistance and had to be substituted. Federico Redondo was the one who replaced Messi on the field.

Leo felt a discomfort in his hamstring. We won’t know the severity of the injury until tomorrow. He probably has something, but it might not be serious because he didn’t feel pain, just the discomfort.

Throughout his career, Messi has had to deal with several hamstring injuries. In recent seasons, he has missed playing time due to different leg problems, including a left adductor injury that kept him out of World Cup qualifying matches with Argentina earlier this year. Before Saturday night’s match, Messi had participated in 30 matches with Inter Miami in 2025, including the Concacaf Champions Cup, the Club World Cup, the Leagues Cup, and the Major League Soccer regular season. In MLS alone, Messi has accumulated 18 goals and nine assists with the team.
