Jacksonville, Florida – Louis Rees-Zammit, the talented rugby player, has made a surprising decision that marks a turning point in his sporting career. Rees-Zammit announced via his social media that he will leave the Jacksonville Jaguars of the NFL to return to rugby, a sport in which he shone representing Wales and on tours with the British & Irish Lions.

“It has been a great experience, but it’s time to go home. I have decided that this is the best time to make this decision and give myself time to prepare for next season. There’s only one thing on my mind, which is to return to rugby and do what I do best. I can’t explain how excited I am!”, shared Rees-Zammit.

The 24-year-old player, who signed with the Kansas City Chiefs at the end of March 2024 as part of the International Player Pathway program, was used as a running back and participated in all three preseason games, accumulating 22 yards on six carries. The Chiefs released him on August 27th and the Jaguars signed him the next day, re-positioning him as a receiver. Rees-Zammit practiced with the Jaguars’ practice squad during the 2024 season, but was never promoted to the active roster. In February, the Jaguars included him on their 90-player roster. Jacksonville’s training camp began on July 23, but Rees-Zammit suffered a lower back injury in the team’s second practice, limiting his participation in the following five.
