Lood de Jager Bolsters South Africa for Rugby Championship Final Clash

South Africa’s selection has called up second-row Lood de Jager for their final Rugby Championship match, facing Argentina in London. This decision comes after the absence of Franco Mostert, who was unable to travel due to a family matter. De Jager, who missed the recent 67-30 triumph over Los Pumas in Durban due to an injury, has recovered in time for the trip to Twickenham and will replace Mostert. Springboks coach Rassie Erasmus expressed his support for Mostert and highlighted the importance of De Jager’s return.

“We all feel deeply for Franco and wish him strength at this difficult time, and we will support him as best we can. Fortunately, Lood has recovered from his injury, and his experience and leadership will be valuable in such an important week for the team.”

The team arrived in London on Sunday night and resumed training. Erasmus noted that the players are in good shape and ready for action.

“The trip to London was good, and being a night flight, the players rested well on the plane and look fresh and ready to get back into action. Fortunately, the time zone is similar to that of South Africa, so the players can get back into action without any problem. Obviously, we will manage them carefully this week to make sure we get the best out of them on the field on Saturday.”

Erasmus also emphasized the relevance of the next match.

“This is a huge match, and we have no doubt that Argentina will come out with everything to finish their campaign on a high note, but at the same time, we have the opportunity to win the competition for the second consecutive year for the first time in history, so we have all the motivation we need this week.”
