Jaromir Jagr, at 53 years old, begins his 38th season in professional hockey

The legendary ice hockey player, Jaromir Jagr, at the astonishing age of 53 years old, has begun his 38th season as a professional. On Friday night, Jagr participated in the victory of his home team, the Kladno Knights, with a score of 3-1 over Vitkovice in the Czech league. Jagr, who is an iconic figure in the hockey world, played on the fourth line and accumulated ice time of 10 minutes and 8 seconds. His season debut was delayed due to a muscle problem. This was the fifteenth game of the season for Kladno. Jagr, at 53 years and 244 days old, once again demonstrates his longevity and passion for the sport. Jagr made his debut with Kladno at 16 years old and returned to the club in 2018 after being released by the Calgary Flames. Currently, he is second on the NHL’s career points list, behind only Wayne Gretzky. With 766 goals in the NHL, Jagr is in fourth place all-time on that list. He played 11 seasons in Pittsburgh, where he won the Stanley Cup with the Penguins in 1991 and 1992.

“He makes his presence felt in the locker room. We have a lot of fun with him,” said forward Jakub Konecny.

Until the beginning of this year, Jagr combined his role as a player with that of owner of Kladno, dividing his time between finding sponsors, administrative tasks, and time on the ice. Jagr acquired full ownership in 2017 and sold a majority stake in January to financially boost the team. Jagr expressed his desire to complete the season, seeking to lead Kladno to the playoffs for the first time. They failed to reach the playoffs. Therefore, they have another chance this season.
