Ducks Secure Jackson LaCombe with Million-Dollar Extension

The Anaheim Ducks have secured the continuity of defenseman Jackson LaCombe, a key piece in their rebuilding process, through an eight-year contract extension. The official announcement was made on Thursday, marking a milestone for the team. The agreement has an average annual value of $9 million, according to sources. This amount is similar to the contract Luke Hughes signed with the New Jersey Devils, although with a term of seven years. The LaCombe contract, which will begin in the 2026-27 season and end in 2033-34, is the largest ever awarded by the Ducks. Currently, LaCombe has one year remaining on a two-year bridge contract with an average annual value of $925,000, signed in 2024.

Extending LaCombe was a priority for the team. He has all the tools to be an anchor on our defense for many years.

Pat Verbeek, General Manager of the Ducks
Anaheim general manager Pat Verbeek emphasized that LaCombe’s extension was a priority for the team and that the young defenseman possesses “all the tools to be a cornerstone on our defense for many years.” Verbeek also mentioned that both parties sought long-term agreements, which facilitated the negotiations. Furthermore, he expressed his confidence in the contract, in LaCombe’s character, and in his growth potential. LaCombe, 24, was selected in the 39th overall pick of the 2019 NHL draft. In his career, he has accumulated 60 points in 148 games, with a personal best of 14 goals and 29 assists in 75 games last season. He formed an effective pairing with veteran defenseman Radko Gudas. LaCombe expressed that extending his contract was an “easy decision” due to his love for the team and the city. He highlighted the good relationship with his teammates and the welcome he received in the last two years. LaCombe, a graduate of the University of Minnesota, was invited to the orientation camp of the United States men’s Olympic team, which puts him in contention for a spot on the 2026 hockey team that will compete for gold in Italy. In addition, LaCombe contributed to the United States winning gold at the 2025 world championship. LaCombe is the first player to re-sign from the Ducks’ large class of restricted free agents for next summer. Verbeek indicated that they are working on other agreements, following the signing of LaCombe. Last week, the Ducks and center Mason McTavish agreed to a six-year, $42 million extension. Anaheim is looking for its first playoff berth since 2018.
