Thomas Chabot, Senators Defenseman, Out with Injury

Ottawa Senators defenseman Thomas Chabot will be out for up to two months due to a broken arm, according to coach Travis Green announced on Thursday. Chabot suffered a fracture in his right arm after a hit by J.T. Miller, captain of the New York Rangers, near the end of the first period on Monday night. Miller was not penalized for the play. Green reported that Chabot underwent surgery and will be out for a minimum of one month, but could extend to eight weeks.

Will be away for a while.

Chabot, 29, has recorded seven goals and 24 assists in 55 games this season, with a plus-6. He is second in average ice time (22:34) in Ottawa, behind Jake Sanderson (24:49). Sanderson, the Senators’ top defenseman, hasn’t played since March 7 due to an upper-body injury, but will travel with the team as his return nears. Lassi Thomson also suffered an injury in the game against the Rangers, but Green indicated that his situation is day-to-day. The team also has the absences of defensemen Nick Jensen and Dennis Gilbert, who, according to Green, will be out for another two to three weeks. Rookie defensemen Carter Yakemchuk and Jorian Donovan debuted in the NHL in Ottawa’s 3-2 victory over the Detroit Red Wings on Tuesday. The Senators are facing this adversity due to injuries as they fight for a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. Before their home game against Pittsburgh on Thursday night, the Senators occupied the last wild card spot with 85 points, just ahead of the New York Islanders and the Red Wings.
